Softball Recap: Eastern Greene Comes Up Short

Eastern Greene extended their losing streak to nine on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-14. They lost 19-3 to the Clay City Eels. The Thunderbirds were not able to make up for their loss to the Eels from their previous meeting back in May of 2025.

Kayleigh Perry was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Makayla Singh was another key player, earning one RBI and two stolen bases.

As for Clay City, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. The result was nothing new for Clay City, who have now won nine games by eight runs or more so far this season.

On Clay City's side, Karlee Smith was incredible, firing off three home runs, ten RBI, and four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those three home runs gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Stoelting, who went 2-for-3 with five runs, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Eastern Greene will challenge South Knox at 7:45 p.m. on Monday. The Thunderbirds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for Clay City, they will take on Dugger Union at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.89 runs per game on average), something the Eels will no doubt try to take advantage of.
