Lyon County is 8-2 against Murray since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Lyons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. The two teams are out to turn their luck around after having lost tight contests in their previous games.
Murray is facing Lyon County at the wrong time: Lyon County suffered their first home loss of the season on Saturday and they're likely out for redemption. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Lyons have suffered since March 25th.
Korben Lucas was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run. Another player making a difference was Eli Baker, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Murray unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Carlisle County by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Tigers have suffered against the Comets since May 14, 2019.
Asa Munsey put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Munsey wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cody Garner, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Lyon County's defeat dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Murray, they now have a losing record of 13-14.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lyon County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Murray struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lyon County beat Murray 4-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Lyons repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
