Baseball Recap: Berkeley Takes a Loss

Berkeley lost against Encinal on Tuesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Yellowjackets fell 6-2 to the Jets. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sasha Spahr was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.

At the plate, Akanni Owodunni was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run. Berkeley is 4-2 when Owodunni posts one or more home runs, but 6-11 otherwise.

Berkeley's loss dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Encinal, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Berkeley is set to challenge their familiar foe Castro Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Encinal will face off against rival Piedmont at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Jets 4, the Highlanders 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
