Ansonia took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They claimed a resounding 36-6 win over the Riverside Pirates. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Tigers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Pirates are ranked 414th).
Riverside's loss came despite strong showings from Gunner Carpenter and Dylan Trimble. Carpenter rushed for 63 yards and one TD, while Trimble rushed for 66 yards on only six carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 58 yards.
Looking ahead, Ansonia will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Preble Shawnee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
