Recap: Walhalla Razorbacks vs. Pickens Blue Flame
The Walhalla Razorbacks lost against the Pickens Blue Flame last Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Walhalla fell to Pickens 51-45. It was the first time this season that Walhalla let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Walhalla saw an underclassman step up: Ashlyn Frick scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Frick scored 15 or more points. Marnie Baxter was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three steals.
Walhalla struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Pickens found their leader in underclassman Ava Owens, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Owens is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Maggie Chambers, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Walhalla's loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-4. As for Pickens, their victory was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walhalla will challenge Easley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Easley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while Walhalla is ranked 45th). As for Pickens, they will head out on the road to face off against Liberty at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Liberty is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
