South Delta extended the longest winning streak in 2A Region 4 this week by beating Humphreys County, 50-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Simmons was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. The Blue Devils vanquished Gentry 8-7 earlier in the week.
South Delta's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ricky Green threw for 90 and one touchdown and Terry Montgomery had 90 yards receiving. On the ground Hakeem Johnson chipped in 236 yards. Jonathan Knight helped South Delta's passing attack out by catching one ball for 45 yards.
West Bolivar's Kylan Johnson and Dennis Pendleton have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Johnson has thrown for 531 yards this season, while Pendleton, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has eight catches for 159 yards. Johnson from Derrick Hooker's team leads the league in rushing with 917 yards.
The top two teams in 2A Region 4 will face off this week when first place South Delta takes on second place West Bolivar. The Bulldogs bested the Cowboys last week, while the Eagles topped Leland.
South Delta's Johnson is a mere 83 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
