Baseball Game Preview: Grassfield Grizzlies vs. Woodside Wolverines

Grassfield is a perfect 3-0 against Woodside since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Grizzlies will welcome the Wolverines at 1:00 p.m.

Grassfield is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Hickory just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Grizzlies have suffered since March 25, 2025.

Meanwhile, Woodside posted their closest victory since April 24, 2025 on Tuesday. They skirted past Denbigh 7-6. The game was the first time the Wolverines have beaten the Patriots on their field since May 18, 2023.

Mattaniah Cook was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jelani Herbert, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Woodside pushed their record up to 5-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Grassfield, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.

Everything went Grassfield's way against Woodside in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Grassfield made off with an 11-0 win. Do the Grizzlies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolverines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
