Baseball Game Preview: Wayne Eagles vs. High Point Christian Academy Cougars

The Wayne Eagles will take on the High Point Christian Academy Cougars in a tournament on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

Wayne's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over Waterloo.

The result came thanks to Cory Jones's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Michael Grasso was incredible, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Celso, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask High Point Christian Academy). They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over Spencerport on Monday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

ELI WITHERS looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

Wayne's record now sits at 3-0. As for High Point Christian Academy, their record is now 13-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wayne has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like High Point Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
