Basketball Recap: Willow Spring Victorious

If Cleveland wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Willow Spring, they should've done a better job of containing Amanda Mitchell. The Willow Spring Storm snuck past the Cleveland Rams with a 58-53 victory on Monday thanks in part to Mitchell, who went 9-for-13 on her way to 21 points and five blocks. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Willow Spring's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Christina Drake, who posted six points. Those six points gave her a new career-high.

Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Angelia Dunn, who earned 19 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Dunn is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in each of the last ten games she's played. Izzy Sholar was another key player, putting up ten points along with seven boards and four steals.

Willow Spring's win bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Cleveland, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season.

Willow Spring wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 70-19 loss against Southeast Raleigh on the 18th. Cleveland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
