Softball Game Preview: Rivera Raiders vs. Calhoun Sandcrabs

The Rivera Raiders are taking a road trip to take on the Calhoun Sandcrabs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Rivera took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They never let Odem onto the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The Raiders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Danna Ramirez made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Ramirez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that she's brought in this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hazel Gonzalez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

Rivera always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Odem only posted an OBP of .238.

Meanwhile, Calhoun made easy work of Lyford on Friday and carried off a 10-0 win. That looming 10-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Sandcrabs yet this season.

Kally Billings was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run. Ella Lange was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Rivera's record is now 2-3. As for Calhoun, their record now sits at 4-1.

Saturday's contest will be a test for both team's pitchers. Rivera hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having hit 0 of their hits per game. However, it's not like Calhoun struggles in that department as they've hit 0 of their hits this season.
