Basketball Recap: Cox Mill Comes Up Short

Cox Mill lost against Lake Norman back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cox Mill Chargers lost 84-59 to the Lake Norman Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Wildcats are ranked seventh).

Lake Norman's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trent Steinour, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Steinour has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 37 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nick Arnold, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards.

Cox Mill now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Lake Norman, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 21-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cox Mill will welcome Hickory Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Hickory Ridge's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games. As for Lake Norman, they will host South Iredell at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Lake Norman's favor as the team sits on 14 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while South Iredell has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
