Basketball Recap: Cardinal Newman Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Cardinal Newman can now relate to. They had to suffer through a 72-19 loss at the hands of the King's Academy Lions. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while the Lions are ranked 23rd).

Brielle George went supernova for King's Academy, almost dropping a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Julia Vazquez, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 12 points and three steals.

Cardinal Newman is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-17. As for King's Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.
