Preview: Lapel Bulldogs vs. University Trailblazers
The Lapel Bulldogs will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the University Trailblazers at 12:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Lapel is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than University in Indiana (Lapel is ranked 49th, while University is ranked 165th).
Last Tuesday, Lapel came up short against Pendleton Heights and fell 57-44.
Lapel's loss came about despite a quality game from Laniah Wills, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Madelyn Poynter was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, University also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Bethesda Christian by a score of 48-37. University has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their defeat, University saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Charlotte Conyers, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Conyers hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Feeney, who scored four points along with five blocks.
Lapel's loss ended a 11-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-4. As for University, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.
Lapel and University were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but Lapel came up empty-handed after a 51-50 defeat. Thankfully for Lapel, Payton Seay (who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
