Basketball Recap: Isabela Beauchamp's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ida Baker over Gulf Coast

Ida Baker lost against Gulf Coast back in December of 2014 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Ida Baker Bulldogs fell to the Gulf Coast Sharks 56-52. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 445th, while the Sharks are ranked 134th).

Ida Baker's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isabela Beauchamp, who went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Beauchamp a new career-high in points. Maia Berdebes was another key player, putting up 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gulf Coast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lilly Fultz, who posted 16 points in addition to seven steals and five boards. Fultz is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jena Walsh, who had 13 points along with six assists and five steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Ida Baker and nudges their season record down to 9-15. As for Gulf Coast, they pushed their record up to 16-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home.

Ida Baker has already played their next match (against Palmetto Ridge), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Gulf Coast will face off against Dunbar at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gulf Coast's defense has only allowed 30 points per game this season, so Dunbar's offense will have their work cut out for them.
