Basketball Recap: Plainfield Snags Third Victory in Last Four Games

If Zionsville wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Plainfield, they should've done a better job of containing Landon Gilliatt. The Plainfield Quakers rang in the new year with a 77-68 win over the Zionsville Eagles on Saturday thanks in part to Gilliatt, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten assists. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Another player making a difference was Harper Baker-Lands, who went 6 of 9 en route to 16 points. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played.

Zionsville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drew Snively, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 20 points and eight rebounds. That's the most rebounds Snively has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Maguire Mitchell, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds.

Plainfield has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Zionsville, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-5.

Plainfield will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Northview at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th. As for Zionsville, they will head out to face off against Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.3 points per game this season.
