League recap: Penncrest stuns Haverford in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Penncrest, who defeated 175th ranked Haverford, 22-21.

The Lions scaled the state rankings by moving to 190 from 293 this week, the biggest jump in Central. Penncrest climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Fords 22-21.

Charlie Carbin and Brad Murphy gave Springfield a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Carbin threw for 59 yards, while Murphy ran for 132 yards. Collin Braconnier also contributed to the rushing game with 76 yards on the ground.

Carbin and Murphy gave the Cougars a balanced attack through the air and ground last week.

Carbin put up the best numbers in passing as Springfield defeated Lower Merion.

A.J. Cunningham was a key player and the best on defense this week as Marple Newtown beat Strath Haven. The 6-foot-0 senior racked up 2.0 sacks.

Nik Rhoads was the best wideout in the league this week as the Fightin' Tigers bested the Panthers. Rhoads racked up 4 receptions for 54 yards.

Murphy was a passing and rushing force as Tom Kline's team topped the Aces.

Murphy was the most successful running back in the league this week.

6-foot-1 quarterback Carbin of the Cougars is the league leader in passing yards this season with 179. He has also thrown 2 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is DEANDRE PENDERGRASS. The Upper Darby star has 4 catches for 184 yards.

A big matchup in Central this week will be when Conestoga takes on Rick Stroup's team. The Pioneers are currently in fourth, while the Lions are in second.

Conestoga and Ridley played the most contested game in the league this week, with Conestoga eventually emerging with a 22-21 victory.
