Basketball Game Preview: Mauldin Mavericks vs. Woodmont Wildcats

Mauldin is 8-2 against Woodmont since December of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Mauldin Mavericks will head out on the road to take on the Woodmont Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Mauldin is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.6 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Mauldin slipped by Hillcrest 60-59.

Alverez Smith had an outrageously good game as he went 7 of 10 en route to 19 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Jace Shaw, who posted nine points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Meanwhile, Woodmont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 68-58 to Wren. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Hurricanes are ranked seventh).

Mauldin's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Woodmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

Mauldin came up short against Woodmont in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 61-51. Can Mauldin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
