Softball Recap: Stonington Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Stonington dropped their record down to 4-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins on the road dating back to last season. They came up short against the Fitch Falcons, falling 7-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Bears were not able to get on the board.

As for Fitch, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-3. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.4 runs.

For Fitch's part, Hailey Merrill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave Merrill a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Marcella Rentas was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grace Cosmopoulos, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stonington will challenge Norwich Free Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fitch, they will face off against Griswold at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
