Softball Recap: Maple Mountain Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Maple Mountain unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Payson Lions by a score of 15-14 on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Lions from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Izzie Groneman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with one home run and five RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Bella Ekenstam, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

The win made it two in a row for Payson and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maple Mountain will take on Providence Hall in a tournament on Friday. As for Payson, they will head out to square off against Syracuse at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
