Recap: North Johnston Panthers vs. Goldsboro Cougars
The North Johnston Panthers waltzed into their matchup on Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They took down Goldsboro 80-64. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Marcel Freeman was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 38 points and nine rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of North Johnston's points. Another player making a difference was Ayden Pone, who scored 13 points.
North Johnston pushed their record up to 17-3 with that victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for Goldsboro, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Johnston will play host again and welcome Eastern Wayne, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Johnston knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Eastern Wayne likes a good challenge. As for Goldsboro, they will be playing at home against Spring Creek at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Goldsboro's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight contests.
