Softball Recap: Indianapolis Shortridge Comes Up Short

Indianapolis Shortridge had lost seven straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-10 to make it eight. They came up short against the Herron Achaeans, falling 22-8. The Blue Devils were not able to make up for their defeat to the Achaeans from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Aries Smith was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

As for Herron, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-11. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Herron's side, Jordyn Ault was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Ault was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Herron got a massive performance out of Elena Newsom, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Myonna Kaufman was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Coming up, Herron will square off against Irvington Preparatory Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Indianapolis Shortridge will be paying especially close attention to the Achaeans' game: after the Achaeans face off against Irvington Preparatory Academy, they'll take on Indianapolis Shortridge again at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
