Basketball Recap: Oakley Takes a Loss

Oakley lost against Quinter back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Oakley Plainsmen were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 51-50 to the Quinter Bulldogs. While the Plainsmen didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 19-12 in the first quarter.

Oakley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 boards gave Jackson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Manuel Mancia, who posted 12 points.

Quinter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gunner Catura led the charge by putting up 13 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Colt Werth, who put up nine points and six rebounds.

Oakley's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Quinter, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Oakley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 70-42 win against Pawnee Heights on the 13th. As for Quinter, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 39-37 loss against Dighton on the 13th.
