Baseball Recap: Melba's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Melba came into Thursday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Glenns Ferry Pilots on Thursday as they made off with a 13-6 win. With that victory, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Colter Bodily was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Melba is undefeated when Bodily posts two or more runs, but 5-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Melba let Ty Aggen and Kelton Bodily run wild. Aggen went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Bodily got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Bodily has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Aden Arrington, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Melba always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glenns Ferry only posted an OBP of .333.

Melba's record now sits at 8-10. As for Glenns Ferry, they dropped their record down to 7-10-1 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Melba will host Cole Valley Christian at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Glenns Ferry, they will head out on the road to take on Idaho City at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Pilots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
