West Prairie hasn't had much luck against Cuba/Spoon River Valley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cyclones will welcome the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m.
West Prairie fell victim to Rushville-Industry and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 10-0 to the Rockets. The Cyclones have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Cuba/Spoon River Valley brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They put the hurt on Bushnell-Prairie City with a sharp 13-1 win on Thursday. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Kacie White was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI, two runs, and three stolen bases.
In other batting news, Cuba/Spoon River Valley let Emma Probyn and Sam Thum run wild. Probyn got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Thum got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Probyn a new career-high. Abbie Johnson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Cuba/Spoon River Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bushnell-Prairie City only managed four hits.
West Prairie's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Cuba/Spoon River Valley, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.
