TMZ among national outlets reporting on error in judgement by Churchland High School coach.
A 22-year-old assistant high school basketball coach in Virginia is making national news after being fired for impersonating a player and participating in a junior varsity game. The shocking error in judgement was reported by Craig Loper II of WAVY10/FOX 43 and picked up my major national media outlets like
TMZ.
NFHS Network video shows Arlisha Boykins, 22, playing for
Churchland (Portsmouth) in its Jan. 21 junior varsity game against Nansemond River. According to Loper, she was impersonating a missing player.
WAVY10 said that Boykins — who is listed on the school's website as an instructional assistant — has been fired as has the junior varsity girls head coach and the varsity girls head coach.
Portsmouth Public Schools spokesperson Lauren Nolas told USA Today that a meeting was conducted between Churchland officials and a decision was made to cancel the remainder of the season for both the junior varsity and varsity girl's squads.
The Churchland program is struggling as a whole this season. According to scores submitted to MaxPreps, the Truckers' varsity squad has lost all 12 contested games (a 13th loss came via forfeit) by at least 37 points and have been blown out by scores of 103-9, 100-10 and 92-9 along the way.
