Basketball Recap: Braxton County Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Braxton County unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a hard 43-27 fall against the Roane County Raiders on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now lost eight in a row.

Braxton County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rylan Criner, who posted eight points and six rebounds. Those six rebounds gave Criner a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bethany Payne, who put up four points.

Leading Roane County to victory were Braylin Bowe and Anna Tolley. Bowe earned seven points and three steals, while Tolley had 11 points.

Coincidentally, Braxton County and Roane County will both be playing Clay County the next time they take the court. Roane County will head out to face Clay County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Braxton County will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
