Football Game Preview: Northwestern Trojans vs. Irmo Yellow Jackets

Two dominant signal callers in Finley Polk and Aaron (Aj) Brand Jr. are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Northwestern Trojans will challenge the Irmo Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Northwestern comes in on 13 and Irmo on four.

Northwestern is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They strolled past Gaffney with points to spare, taking the game 58-40.

It was another big night for Polk, who threw for 339 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown. That's the most passing touchdowns he has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Kameron Vance, who picked up 168 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Irmo faced White Knoll in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Irmo snuck past White Knoll with a 29-25 victory.

Northwestern better keep an eye on Brand Jr. He was instrumental in Irmo's win, rushing for 214 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry, and also throwing for 91 yards and one touchdown while completing 77.8% of his passes. Brand Jr.'s rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his ninth straight game with at least 107 rushing yards.

Irmo pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 37.3 points. As for Northwestern, their record now sits at 13-0.

Everything came up roses for Northwestern against Irmo when the teams last played back in September of 2015, as the team secured a 59-0 victory. Does Northwestern have another victory up their sleeve, or will Irmo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
