Softball Game Preview: Ashe County Huskies vs. South Caldwell Spartans

Ashe County hasn't had much luck against South Caldwell recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Huskies will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Wednesday, Ashe County came up short against Starmount and fell 5-1.

Maleah Lovell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Ashe County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Williams, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, South Caldwell faced Alexander Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Spartans fell 11-7 to the Cougars. The Spartans' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

South Caldwell's defeat dropped their record down to 17-2. As for Ashe County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.
