Baseball Game Preview: Bolton Bulldogs vs. Coventry Patriots

Bolton is 0-10 against Coventry since April of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will face off against the Patriots at 3:15 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

On Tuesday, Bolton came up short against Granby Memorial and fell 8-4.

Josh Wagner was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Coventry and Ellington, and Ellington kept the tradition alive. The Patriots took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Patriots couldn't push the score so high this time.

Coventry saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Roberts, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

With the defeat, Coventry broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-7. As for Bolton, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bolton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Coventry struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Bolton suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Coventry in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
