Kaylee Carson leads a balanced attack to beat Providence

Recap: Independence Patriots vs. Providence Panthers

The Independence Patriots won the last time they faced the Providence Panthers, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Independence came out on top against Providence by a score of 66-53. Given Independence's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Providence is ranked 161st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Independence's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaylee Carson, who scored 20 points along with five assists. Kamryn Kitchen was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Despite the loss, Providence still got an impressive performance from Delanie Hill, who scored 27 points. That was a full 50.9% of Providence's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Marlee Whitten, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.

Independence is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Providence, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.

Independence didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 82-36 win vs. East Mecklenburg on the 9th. Providence has also already played their next game, a 53-29 win against Rocky River on the 9th.
