Softball Recap: Elysian Fields' Losing Streak Snapped at 15 Games

Elysian Fields came into Saturday's match having lost 15 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Sabine Cardinals on Saturday as the Elysian Fields Yellowjackets made off with a 12-1 victory. The Yellowjackets' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.

Layla Adkins made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in earned runs (zero). She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles. In other batting news, Avery Woodley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those RBI were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Youngblood, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Elysian Fields always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sabine only posted an OBP of .375.

Elysian Fields' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-10. As for Sabine, they dropped their record down to 0-4 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elysian Fields will welcome Queen City at 7:40 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sabine, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Tatum at 6:00 p.m.
