Volleyball Recap: Pittsburg's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Pittsburg's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Antioch Panthers, sneaking past 3-2. The win was some much needed relief for the Pirates as it spelled an end to their five-match losing streak.

Pittsburg wouldn't go down easily and took Antioch into a fifth set where they got it done with a six-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-9, 25-15, 20-25, 22-25, 15-9.

Pittsburg found their leader in sophomore Kryztigale Guartero, who had 17 digs and five aces. Those 17 digs set a new season-high mark for Guartero.

Pittsburg was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 21 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in five consecutive matches.

Pittsburg picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 3-15. As for Antioch, their defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-15.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Pittsburg will square off against rival Liberty at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Antioch is set to face off against their familiar foe Deer Valley at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
