Basketball Recap: Garland Christian Academy Comes Up Short

If Garland Christian Academy was riding high fresh off their 48-27 takedown of Cambridge last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Garland Christian Academy Swordsmen came up short against the First Baptist Saints on Tuesday, falling 80-60. While losing is never fun, the Swordsmen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1014th, while the Saints are ranked 390th).

Despite the loss, Garland Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Noah Doddy went 7 for 15 en route to 18 points. Another player making a difference was Carson Nabors, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 12 points.

Dylan Jones was his usual excellent self, going 11 for 21 from beyond the arc en route to 35 points and six boards for First Baptist. Jones' evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jett Stamps, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 19 points.

Garland Christian Academy's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-9. As for First Baptist, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-2.

Garland Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 55-48 loss against Prestonwood Christian North on the 17th. First Baptist has also already played their next game, a 94-84 victory against Ovilla Christian on the 17th.
