Baseball Game Preview: Gibault Catholic Hawks vs. Cahokia Comanches

Gibault Catholic is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Cahokia a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Gibault Catholic Hawks will look to defend their home field against the Cahokia Comanches at 4:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Things were looking good for Gibault Catholic after they put the first points on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 8-2 to Roxana. That's two games in a row now that the Hawks have lost by exactly six runs.

Carson Timmons was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk).

On the hitting side, Tyler Frierdich made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Nolan Snell also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Cahokia's offense. They came up short against Valmeyer on Tuesday, falling 19-0. That's two games in a row now that the Comanches have lost by exactly 19 runs.

Gibault Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Cahokia, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Gibault Catholic took their victory against Cahokia in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 23-3. Does Gibault Catholic have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cahokia turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
