Softball Recap: Santa Fe Comes Up Short

Santa Fe fell victim to La Porte and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the La Porte Bulldogs. The Indians have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meetings.

Carlie Hrncir was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Santa Fe saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katelynn Torres, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Santa Fe's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for La Porte, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That somehow still isn't as good as their 10-2-1 record this season.

Santa Fe and La Porte could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Santa Fe will face off against Friendswood at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday down 117 places (151 vs. 34). Meanwhile, La Porte (ranked 85th) will meet Angleton (ranked 21st) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
