Baseball Game Preview: West Point Pointers vs. Mathews Blue Devils

The West Point Pointers will challenge the Mathews Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Mathews took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on West Point, who comes in off a win.

On Monday, West Point earned a 6-3 victory over Thomas Jefferson.

Blake Keefe was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Keefe was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. West Point is undefeated when Keefe posts two or more runs, but 0-9 otherwise.

Keefe wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Waylon Foster, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, Mathews was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They fell 16-12 to Northampton. On the bright side, the 12- run performance marked the Blue Devils' highest-scoring game to date.

West Point's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-9. As for Mathews, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11.

Everything went West Point's way against Mathews when the teams last played last Tuesday, as West Point made off with a 14-2 victory. Will the Pointers repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
