Basketball Recap: Hawthorne Has No Trouble Against Chiefland

Hawthorne won the last time they faced Chiefland and things went their way on Thursday too. The Hawthorne Hornets put the hurt on the Chiefland Indians with a sharp 54-29 win. The Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Hawthorne had a senior duo take command as Jhalea Jackson dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds and De' Mya Adams posted 17 points along with five boards and three steals. The game was Adams' fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amarhae Hopkins, who put up five points in addition to 11 rebounds and three steals.

Hawthorne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 29 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brianna Bell, who scored ten points and four steals. Bell has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last 47 times she's played. Na?Zyiah Span was another key player, putting up ten points.

Hawthorne is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.4 points per game. As for Chiefland, they moved to 18-4 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.
