Softball Recap: Gilroy Beats Branham for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Gilroy came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Branham Bruins. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted since March 22, 2024.

Ariela Yslava spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bam Mendoza, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season.

Gilroy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive contests.

Gilroy's record is now 6-3. As for Branham, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gilroy will venture away from home to challenge Leland at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Leland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Branham, they will head out on the road to face off against Valley Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Valley Christian 2.1, Branham 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
