Softball Recap: Mitchell Comes Up Short

Mitchell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sturgis Brown Scoopers. The Kernels were not able to make up for their defeat to the Scoopers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Lauren Vanoverschelde made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Macey Linke, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Mitchell's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Sturgis Brown, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-6.

Coming up, Mitchell will head out to take on Spearfish at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sturgis Brown, they will be playing at home against Yankton at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bucks/Gazelles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.16 runs per game on average), something the Scoopers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
