Football Game Preview: Riverside Rams vs. Point Pleasant Beach Garnet Gulls + Official Tickets

The Riverside Rams will square off against the Point Pleasant Beach Garnet Gulls at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Riverside proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by 32) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Lawrence 26-23.

Among those leading the charge was Dean Potts, who threw for 167 yards and two TDs while completing 92.9% of his passes, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Those 167 passing yards gave him a new career-high.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Point Pleasant Beach and Keansburg, and Point Pleasant Beach kept the tradition alive. The Garnet Gulls simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Titans 43-7. That 36 point margin sets a new team best for the Garnet Gulls this season.

A big part of Point Pleasant Beach's victory came down to the chemistry between Matthew Rossi and his top target Elijah Ives. Rossi threw for 266 yards and four TDs on only 14 passes while Ives gained 124 total yards and two touchdowns. Ives' longest reception was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total. Blaise Sholander did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 116 receiving yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Point Pleasant Beach's defense and their three sacks. Leading the way was Tommy Aiosa with two.

Riverside pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.2 points on average over those games. As for Point Pleasant Beach, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
