Football Recap: St. Thomas Catholic Extends Winning Streak to Three

St. Thomas Catholic won against Central Catholic last Friday with 45 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. St. Thomas Catholic never let Savio get on the board and left with a 45-0 win. The result was nothing new for St. Thomas Catholic, who have now won four games by 25 points or more so far this season.

St. Thomas Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Pierce Jacobson out in front who rushed for 54 yards and one touchdown on only six carries. Javaughn Waldron was another key rusher, rushing for 70 yards and one score on only eight carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: St. Thomas Catholic was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 218 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 67.3 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five matchups they've averaged 242.3.

St. Thomas Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Luke Hubbard led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The win was the third in a row for St. Thomas Catholic, bringing their record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 3.0 points on average over those games. As for Savio, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.
