Baseball Game Preview: Whetstone Braves vs. Brooklyn Hurricanes

The Whetstone Braves are taking a road trip to challenge the Brooklyn Hurricanes at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

As a matter of fact, Whetstone put up the most runs they have all season on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Marion-Franklin a 17-0 shutout. Considering the Braves have won seven matches by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn made easy work of Trinity on Wednesday and carried off a 15-0 victory. The Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Gio Garst made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Brooklyn let Mason Vega and Aiden Starr run wild. Vega went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Starr went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Brooklyn is 2-1 when Starr posts two or more runs, but 1-6 otherwise. Zander Rolon also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Brooklyn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Brooklyn picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 3-7. As for Whetstone, their record now sits at 11-4.
