Baseball Recap: Piedmont Hills Wins Going Away Against Del Mar

Piedmont Hills came out on top against Del Mar on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Pirates put the hurt on the Dons with a sharp 10-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won nine matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Travis Linane made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Gomez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Piedmont Hills: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Alex Tran was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Piedmont Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive games.

Piedmont Hills is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Del Mar, they dropped their record down to 2-15 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.
