Basketball Recap: Pender Patriots vs. South Columbus Stallions
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lakewood, Pender was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They secured a 34-28 W over the South Columbus Stallions. The Patriots have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Stallions, too.
Maddison Francis was Pender's leading scorer, having posted ten points. Francis also led the team in rebounds with eight. Solange Stewart took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
South Columbus' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trinity Strickland, who posted nine points and four steals. Karys Townsend was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.
Pender's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for South Columbus, they moved to 4-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pender will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on East Bladen at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. East Bladen will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Pender surely won't give up without a fight. South Columbus will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against West Bladen at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025.
