Basketball Recap: Midland Trail Takes a Loss

If Midland Trail was feeling good fresh off their 56-34 takedown of Liberty last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Midland Trail Patriots came up short against the James Monroe Mavericks on Monday, falling 59-33. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mavericks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 66-56 back in January.

Despite the loss, Midland Trail still got an impressive performance from Thad Brown, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. Brown is becoming a predictor of Midland Trail's success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is 7-3 (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

James Monroe found their leader in sophomore Kadyn Hines, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards. Ryan Mann was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to 15 rebounds and five assists.

Midland Trail has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season. The victory (which was James Monroe's ninth in a row) raised their record to 17-2.

Midland Trail didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-48 loss against Wyoming East on the 27th. As for James Monroe, they have also already played their next game, an 84-52 win against Greenbrier West on the 25th.
