Basketball Recap: Spencer Clubb's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Heavener over Pocola

Heavener fought the good fight in their overtime game against Pocola on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 71-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pocola Indians. The Wolves haven't had much luck with the Indians recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Heavener lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Spencer Clubb, who posted nine points. The dominant performance also gave Clubb a new career-high in steals (two). Another player making a difference was Zaid Rodriguez, who put up eight points along with 11 boards and six assists.

Even though they lost, Heavener smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Heavener's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Pocola, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 14-5.

Heavener and Pocola should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings. Heavener (ranked 152nd) will meet Wilburton (ranked 365th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Pocola will challenge Talihina at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday up 134 places (79 vs. 213).
