When it comes to choosing All-American teams, the 2011 high school football season showed that a consensus All-American was hard to come by.

In taking a look at six postseason All-American teams chosen by MaxPreps, ESPN, Rivals, Sports Illustrated, USA Today and Parade, only three players were chosen first team on all six squads - Johnathan Gray of Aledo (Texas), Dorial Green-Beckham of Hillcrest (Springfield, Mo.), and Noah Spence of Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.).

Those three highlight the MaxPreps Everybody's Football All-Americans Team, which is a compilation of all six All-American teams.

Even choosing a player of the year was not easy. While MaxPreps, ESPN and Gatorade all chose Gray as the national player of the year, USA Today and Parade chose Green-Beckham while Rivals split its honors between Trey Williams of Dekaney (Texas) for offense and Darius Hamilton of Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) for defense.

Picking All-American linebackers was also a difficult decision this year. Only one linebacker, Vince Biegel of Lincoln (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) appears on more than three teams and Reggie Ragland of Bob Jones (Madison, Ala.) was the only other linebacker to appear on three teams. As a result, we've listed only two linebackers and five defensive linemen (the defensive line had a much higher number of consensus players) on the team.

Only 11 offensive and defensive positions were chosen along with a kicker, a punter and an all-purpose player for a total of 25 players. ESPN did the best job of selecting a consensus All-American team as it had all 25 players among its first, second and third teams. However, when just counting its first and second teams (ESPN was the only media outlet to choose a third team), it was right on 19 of 25 with 14 on the first team.

Sports Illustrated correctly picked 23 out of 25 with 16 appearing on its first team. Rivals had 21 out of 25 with 16 on the first team while MaxPreps had 19 out of 25 and 13 on the first team, USA Today had 18 out of 25 with 15 on the first team and Parade had 16 out of 25 with 16 on the first team (Parade only chose an overall first team).

Here's a look at the team along with the honors for each player.
