Preview: Bishop Canevin Crusaders vs. Belle Vernon Leopards
The Bishop Canevin Crusaders will head out on the road to face off against the Belle Vernon Leopards at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Bishop Canevin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Wednesday.
Bishop Canevin's 22-8 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. Their rough 70-44 defeat to Greensburg Central Catholic might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Bishop Canevin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 331st, while Greensburg Central Catholic is ranked 83rd).
Bishop Canevin's loss came about despite a quality game from Michael Vaughn, who scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vaughn has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Allen, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Belle Vernon can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with a 64-53 victory over Steel Valley.
Bishop Canevin now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Belle Vernon, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Everything came up roses for Bishop Canevin against Belle Vernon in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 81-42 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bishop Canevin since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
