Basketball Game Preview: Coffee Trojans vs. Houston County Bears

The Coffee Trojans will face off against the Houston County Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Coffee is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

On Wednesday, Coffee lost to Fitzgerald at home by a 67-48 margin. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while the Purple Hurricane are ranked 168th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Houston County, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They secured a 60-56 W over Thomas County Central on Saturday.

Coffee better focus on containing Malik Gillespie and Braylin Mills as the pair were huge in Houston County's win. Gillespie posted 15 points, while Mills went 5 for 7 on his way to 10 points and seven rebounds. Gillespie's afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kam Plummer, who put up nine points and five boards.

Houston County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.6 points per game. As for Coffee, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-19.

Coffee was dealt a bruising 75-42 loss at the hands of Houston County when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Houston County's Josh Jackson, who went 8 of 13 en route to 19 points.
