Basketball Recap: Orangeburg-Wilkinson's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Orangeburg-Wilkinson was the 37-31 winner over Bethune-Bowman when they last played one another last Monday, but their luck changed this time around. The Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins fell to the Bethune-Bowman Mohawks 51-46. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Bruins came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Mohawks are ranked 95th).

When it comes to explaining why Orangeburg-Wilkinson lost on Friday, don't look at Jordan McGahee. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave McGahee a new career-high in steals (four). Another player making a difference was Amorie Miley, who posted seven points.

With the defeat, Orangeburg-Wilkinson broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-3. As for Bethune-Bowman, they pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.

Orangeburg-Wilkinson and North will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. North is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.5 points per game this season. As for Bethune-Bowman, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Branchville at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
